“Starlight Starbright”

"Starlight Starbright" from The Steve Ditko Archives #2 delivers a haunting, dreamlike tale of survival and mystery, written by Jack Oleck and brought to life with Ditko’s signature precision and eerie atmosphere. As two men drift in a lifeboat and stumble upon the legendary Flying Dutchman, the line between reality and legend blurs in a story that lingers long after the final page. The cover, also by Steve Ditko, captures the eerie stillness of the moment, perfectly framing the unsettling journey within.

The American Destroyer Jeffries is torpedoed. Adams and Sawyer float for six days in a lifeboat until they see an old sailing ship. They climb aboard carefully as the ropes and wood are rotten. They walk the decks without the crew seeing them. They find a book written in Dutch - they are on board the Flying Dutchman. They decide to escape and fall in to the sea when a railing breaks away. They float for days clutching the railing. They are picked up by a Navy cruiser. Their papers show they were crew on the Jeffries which sank in WWI! So, where have they been since 1918?
