Ostrander and Ridgway's run on The Spectre delivered some of DC's most unsettling supernatural storytelling of the mid-'90s, and this September 1996 issue keeps that tradition very much alive. The cover by Tom Taggart is genuinely arresting — a massive mechanical spider, all riveted plating and glowing compound eyes, looms over a helpless, horrified human figure tangled in its web. "Acts of God" promises exactly the kind of morally charged, nightmarish confrontation that made this series so compelling.
