About this Issue

The Spectacular Spider-Men #14 is a meaningful chapter in the first ongoing series ever to co-star Peter Parker (Earth-616) and Miles Morales (Earth-1610) as equal leads rather than mentor and student, a status shift that reflects how pop culture — from 'Into the Spider-Verse' to 'Marvel's Spider-Man 2' — had reframed their relationship for a new generation. The issue is notable for completing Weisman's sustained project of rescuing a decade's worth of dormant supporting characters from his 2015–2016 'Starbrand & Nightmask' run and weaving them organically into a flagship Spider-Man title, giving ESU students like Tri Chen and Krysta Brown their first substantive comic appearances in roughly ten years. It also resolves a multi-issue Lizard subplot — tying off the kidnapping of Billy Connors while formally establishing Shift as the ally Martha Connors had called upon back in issue #12 — demonstrating Weisman's long-arc, ensemble-driven approach to superhero storytelling. For readers tracking the 616 corner of the Spider-Man mythos, the issue is the moment the series' sprawling supporting cast came closest to the foreground.

History

The Spectacular Spider-Men launched in March 2024, created by writer Greg Weisman — best known outside comics for producing and writing the acclaimed 2008–2009 'Spectacular Spider-Man' animated series and co-creating 'Gargoyles' — and artist Humberto Ramos, a longtime 'Amazing Spider-Man' collaborator. The series was conceived explicitly as the first ongoing title to give both Spider-Men shared equal billing, with Weisman describing his interest in dramatizing the evolution 'from mentor and protégé to them simply being good friends.' By issue #14, interior art duties had transitioned to Andrés Genolet, with Edgar Delgado on colors and Mark Bagley providing the cover; editor Nick Lowe and Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski oversaw the issue, which shipped April 16, 2025 with a cover date of June 2025.
