The Omega Men #9

The Omega Men #9 delivers a genuinely striking cover from penciler Tod Smith and inker Mike DeCarlo: a glowing, golden-skinned figure stands his ground below while a snarling, clawed beast dives downward — and dominating the left side of the image is an enormous purple-and-grey maw bristling with jagged teeth, threatening to swallow the whole scene whole. Three very different threats sharing one frame makes for a wonderfully chaotic tableau. With a story titled "Hail, Kalista... Once and Future Queen!" hinting at political intrigue among DC's Vegan star systems, this 1983 issue is a fine entry point into one of the era's more ambitious cosmic team books.
