MWOM vol. 2 was relaunched in June 1983 by editor Bernie Jaye as a full-colour monthly with card covers, giving a prestige format to both homegrown Captain Britain material (migrated from the cancelled Daredevils) and US limited-series reprints. By issue #12 cost-cutting had stripped away the card covers and reduced the colour, and issue #13, published June 1984, was where Alan Moore handed off the Captain Britain scripting baton to Alan Davis (with Steve Craddock on art assists), who would carry the strip through to issue #16 before the character departed for his own dedicated monthly title in January 1985. Moore's final Captain Britain story — the Merlyn funeral sequence — had already been completed for this slot, making #13 the last issue bearing his name on the strip he had radically reshaped.
