The Mighty Thor Omnibus #4
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis omnibus collects the final chapters of Walter Simonson's legendary run on Thor, featuring epic battles with the Midgard Serpent and the fiery demon Surtur. The volume includes Thor's transformation into a frog, the introduction of the new Thor Beta Ray Bill, and the tragic fall of Balder. Key characters like Hercules and Ares also appear in these sweeping Norse mythology-inspired tales.
"In the Shadow of Mangog!" brings together the thunderous art of John Buscema and Don Perlin, with Gerry Conway’s gripping storytelling, as Thor returns to Asgard only to find it overrun by lizard-like beings. Though they claim to be victims of the Vrellnexians and offer help in locating the missing Odin, their true intentions begin to surface once the All-Father is freed—only to be too late to warn Thor of the betrayal that follows. The cover by Gil Kane, John Romita, Joe Sinnott, and Al Milgrom captures the clash of myth and menace with classic Marvel flair.

Thor and his companions return to Asgard only to find it occupied by lizard people. After a brief skirmish, the lizards portray themselves as victims of another alien race, the Vrellnexians, and claim that they can help Thor to find the missing Odin. This aspect of their story is true. Odin is found, drugged and bound as a slave. Once freed by Thor, Odin tries to warn Thor, too late, that his lizard allies are the true villains.
