“Enforcer”

The cover of this July 1983 issue sets an ominous tone, with Firestorm's massive, flame-wreathed face looming over a city street where his costumed alter ego lies face-down and defeated on the ground. Standing triumphant between them is a green-and-gold armored figure — the Enforcer — while a frightened older civilian cowers nearby, caught in the middle of the confrontation. The cheeky cover copy ("Ever have one of those days?") adds a wry edge to the tension, a nice touch from the Broderick and Giordano art team that makes this Gerry Conway–scripted chapter hard to pass up.
