“Beware--The Six-Fingered Hand!”

This April 1981 issue raises an urgent question right on the cover: can the combined might of the Defenders overcome a demonic new version of Hellcat? Michael Golden's cover depicts a feral, wild-haired Hellcat lunging with clawed hands over a battered Dr. Strange, Valkyrie (armed with her gleaming sword), and a fallen figure bearing a mystical pentagram emblem, while familiar faces including Namor and a masked hero peer down from the corner — the whole scene set against an eerie, creature-laden green hellscape. With J. M. DeMatteis writing and the art team of Don Perlin, Joe Sinnott, and Al Milgrom bringing the interiors to life, this is a fine example of the Defenders' darker supernatural corner of the 1981 Marvel universe.
