The Silver Surfer dominates this November 1981 Marvel cover, arms outstretched atop his gleaming board as he calls out "Now is the time, Defenders… for Renewal!" — a dramatic rallying cry rendered with real energy by cover artist Al Milgrom. Flanking the Surfer is an impressive assembly: Doctor Strange sweeping in from the left, the Hulk and a cloaked figure on the right, and Hellcat and Valkyrie visible in the foreground below. With J. M.
