The Darkness surges forward on this striking 1997 Top Cow/Image cover, rendered in moody blues and blacks by penciler Marc Silvestri and inker Matt Banning — the host of the Darkness power crouches mid-leap, his symbiotic armor gleaming with alien eyes and golden markings while a clawed hand crackles with supernatural energy. Surrounding him on all sides are the grinning, fang-filled faces of Darklings, their glowing yellow-green eyes peering out of the shadows in every direction. It's a wonderfully atmospheric composition that captures the series' blend of mob-world grit and cosmic horror at its 1997 best.
