“Part One The Creature of Ghost Lake!”

In "Part One: The Creature of Ghost Lake!", the Suicide Squad is sent on a covert mission to investigate the mysterious disappearance of Prof. Duane, whose experiments with a size-altering formula have raised alarms. As the team infiltrates a remote resort, they're drawn into a terrifying encounter with a giant creature that steals a nuclear bomb—only to be subdued and sent to sea, leaving the squad haunted by the grim possibility that the monster was once the scientist they were sent to find. Written by Robert Kanigher and illustrated by Ross Andru with inks by Mike Esposito, this 1959 DC classic features a cover by Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, blending Cold War tension with early sci-fi horror.

Prof. Duane is missing, apparently having created a formula that grows things to giant size. Headquarters fears that Prof. Duane has been captured by enemy agents, and orders Suicide Squad to investigate unofficially. The team books into a nearby resort so as to search surreptitiously. A giant monster seizes both Karin and a nuclear bomb being tested with a time device. Knocking the monster out with anesthetic the men free Karin, then tow the monster out to sea where the bomb explodes harmlessly. Suicide Squad regrets the monster's death, as they all surmise it was originally Prof. Duane.
