The Gatherers' newest recruit-to-be, Coal Tiger, is dying due to his transition from his home Earth-355 to Earth-616. Coal Tiger is an alternate version of Black Panther and the last remaining Avenger from his universe. In Wakanda, the Gatherers defeat the Black Panther and begin the process of "gathering" that will save Coal Tiger but kill the Panther. Coal Tiger is disgusted by the Gatherers actions and pleads with the Swordsman to help. The Swordsman stops the process and Coal Tiger dies. The Avengers arrive and drive off the Gatherers but manage to capture the Swordsman.
