The Amazing Spider-Man #15

This issue was produced by the team of writer Howard Mackie and artist John Byrne, who co-launched Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 2 together in January 1999 following the conclusion of the Clone Saga era. Byrne penciled the series from issue #1 through #18, making this issue one of his final contributions to the run before he departed. The Vol. 2 relaunch was Marvel's attempt to give Spider-Man a cleaner, more accessible status quo after years of Clone Saga-related narrative clutter, and the Latveria arc in #15–16 represents Mackie trying to address unresolved character drama — specifically MJ's fate — head-on rather than letting it linger as background noise.
