The Freak turns back into Happy but loses his memory. Senator Byrd, with a police escort, serves Stark with a subpoena and orders him to go with them to Washington. Pepper is disgusted at Stark's casual attitude and seeming lack of concern for Happy. Enter the Mandarin, who drives off some invading Chinese soldiers and, at the same time, abducts Stark on his way to a court hearing by means of a teleportation device. Mandarin dumps Stark's briefcase into the moat of his castle, in case it contains an explosive device, and then prepares to unleash Ultimo, his greatest creation.
