About this Issue

Supreme #5 serves as a dense first-appearance engine within the early Image/Extreme Universe, debuting the Starguard—a team of future heroes who are eventually revealed to be Supreme's own children—alongside Maxine Winslow, the persistent reporter whose antagonism toward Supreme would thread through the series for years. The issue also marks the first appearance of the Image Universe's version of Thor, a character whose arrival in Norway plants a mythological subplot that pays off across subsequent issues. Arriving in the thick of the Khrome saga, it demonstrates the wide-scale, interconnected world-building ambitions Rob Liefeld and Brian Murray were pursuing in the Extreme Studios imprint during Image's breakout first full year of publication.
