Superman: Lois Lane #1
Part of DC's 1998 "Girlfrenzy!" celebration of female characters, this one-shot puts Lois Lane front and center in a striking hot-pink cover by Leonard Kirk and Karl Story. She's depicted in a dark tactical outfit, camera slung over one shoulder and a pistol-grip weapon raised in her other hand, glancing back with the cool confidence of someone who never waits for the story to come to her. With Barbara Kesel writing and Amanda Conner on interior art inked by Jimmy Palmiotti, this issue makes a strong case that Metropolis's sharpest reporter is more than capable of carrying an adventure on her own terms.
