☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis collection brings together the first story arc of the 2017 DC series Sugar & Spike: Metahuman Investigations, reimagining the classic infant characters as adult private detectives in the DC Universe. Written by Keith Giffen and drawn by Bilquis Evely, the volume follows the duo as they navigate a world of metahuman mysteries, blending humor and noir-style detective work. It collects issues #1–6 of the series.
In "The Island," Sugar and Spike are hired by Superman to retrieve Kryptonite he’d hidden on a remote island he created. Once there, they find themselves facing off against mysterious robots controlled by an unknown female villain, all hunting the same dangerous relic.
In "Sugar's Bad Day," Sugar and Spike take on a bizarre case when Wonder Woman enlists them to investigate Bradley Whitmore, a man who insists he secretly married an Amazon years ago. What starts as a strange personal dispute quickly spirals into something far stranger when Whitmore and his companions reveal they're not human at all.
In "Itty Bitty," Sugar and Spike take on a strange case when Hal Jordan hires them to investigate the Meta-Human Museum of Oddities, where an exhibit eerily resembles his long-lost alien companion, Itty. The museum’s enigmatic operator, Lee Carver—once the villain known as The Lamplighter—has gathered his collection through mysterious means, drawing the attention of an unknown female operative also on a mission to retrieve Itty. As the investigation unfolds, the team uncovers that the alien is not alone, and his siblings have sent someone to find him.
In the Beginning... follows Spike as he shares with his friend Bernie the early days of his partnership with Sugar, when the two young investigators took on their first major case: stopping Colonel Computron’s scheme before it could escalate. The story captures the spark of their dynamic and the moment their talent caught the attention of the Justice League—setting the stage for the adventures to come.
In "Future Shock," Sugar and Spike settle into their new base at the MetaHuman Museum of Oddities—only to find themselves caught in a temporal tangle when three versions of the Legion of Super-Heroes arrive, each from a different point in the future, all hunting the same mysterious object. With time itself unraveling around them, the duo must navigate conflicting timelines and shifting loyalties before the past, present, and future collide.
