In "United We Fall, Part 2," Jason’s deteriorating health threatens to destabilize the Firestorm matrix, forcing Professor Stein to step in and take Jason’s place—merging with Ronnie to become the new Firestorm. As the team scrambles to contain the fallout, Multiplex strikes again, raiding a government lab, and General Eiling, now suspicious of the connection, sends Major Force on a mission to track them down.

In "The Island," Sugar and Spike are hired by Superman to retrieve Kryptonite he’d hidden on a remote island he created. When they arrive, they find the island guarded by mysterious robots controlled by an unknown woman with her own agenda.

In "Wanted: Dead or Decommissioned!" from Legends of Tomorrow #2 (2016), the Metal Men find themselves hunted after the government orders their decommissioning. With help from Doctor Magnus, they flee a high-security facility and seek refuge with Cliff Steele, hoping to stay hidden long enough to survive.
