När Luke hamnar i koma söker vännerna hjälp på den autonoma rymdstationen Rouletten, en viktig källa till skatteintäkter för imperiet som styrs av f.d. senatorn Greyshade. På vägen upptäcker de att imperiet med kommendör Strom i spetsen försökt få det att se ut som om rebellerna har attackerat Roulettens transporter, allt för att rättfärdiga ett maktövertagande. Greyshade förhandlar med Strom: han får behålla Leia för sig själv mot att han får Han Solo och Chewbacca dödade i gladiatorspel. Rebellerna får oväntad hjälp från stationens datorsystem och flyr precis innan Darth Vader anländer.
