“Vengeance Is a Harpy!”

A bold challenge erupts on Joe Kubert's cover as a fierce young woman in a striking yellow flight suit confronts Hans von Hammer — the Enemy Ace — amid burning wreckage, her speech balloon making her intent unmistakably clear: "You killed my brother — now I challenge you, Von Hammer! A duel… to the death… in the sky!" The tension between these two goggled aviators, fire blazing behind them, perfectly sets the stage for the story titled "Vengeance Is a Harpy!" Robert Kanigher's writing paired with Kubert's art made this January 1968 issue one of the more dramatically charged entries in DC's Star Spangled War Stories run.
