Spider-Boy #9 serves as the pivot point of the series' Spider-Verse arc, marking the first time the title's lead character, Bailey Briggs, tumbles directly through the Web of Life and Destiny in a dimension-hopping sequence that links his personal quest — to be remembered by a world that has forgotten him — to the broader multiversal mythology Dan Slott built across his Spider-Man tenure. The issue also delivers the first and only comic-book appearance of King Bowler, a Machine BEM monster native to Earth-51778 (the universe of the 1978 Toei tokusatsu Spider-Man), whose brief, lethal clash with Bailey inside the giant robot Leopardon represents one of the most direct integrations of Takuya Yamashiro's live-action Japanese Spider-Man television continuity into a mainstream Marvel storyline. History

Bailey Briggs was co-created by writer Dan Slott and artist Humberto Ramos, first appearing in Spider-Man vol. 4 #7 (April 2023), emerging from the 'End of the Spider-Verse' storyline. Slott has stated publicly that he had conceived the character for 'some time' before learning Marvel could legally use the Spider-Boy name — a name previously tied to a 1996 DC/Marvel Amalgam character that Marvel could not publish independently. The ongoing solo series launched in November 2023 with interior art by Paco Medina, and by issue #9 the creative team had expanded to include Nathan Stockman on pencils and inks alongside Medina, with Erick Arciniega on colors and VC's Joe Caramagna on letters; the book was edited by Ellie Pyle under editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski. Slott ultimately wrote the series for its full planned run of 20 issues before departing Marvel in 2025.

Trivia · 8 facts

First and only appearance of King Bowler (Earth-51778), a Machine BEM monster created by Professor Monster for the Iron Cross Army; the character debuts and dies within the issue's flashback sequence.
Howard the Duck (here using the alias 'Spider-Duck' / Howard Duckson of Earth-47920) appears in flashback and is revealed by Bailey to be the regular Earth-616 Howard in disguise, at which point Howard abandons the ruse and leaves the Spider-Society's headquarters.
Bailey is sucked into the Web of Life and Destiny after Araña casts a spell on the Totem Dagger and Spider-Totem scrolls in an attempt to restore the world's memory of him; he is transported to Earth-51778 in place of Takuya Yamashiro mid-battle.
Spider-Boy pilots Leopardon — the giant robot associated with Takuya Yamashiro's 1978 Toei tokusatsu Spider-Man — to defeat King Bowler using the mech's Sword Vigor, guided telepathically by Takuya via Madame Web and Silk.
