About this Issue

Spider-Boy #17, titled 'Bug Brothers,' marks the first appearance of the Bada-Bros within the pages of Dan Slott's run, expanding Bailey Briggs's growing personal rogues gallery at a moment when the series was building toward its finale. The issue's central conflict — Boyd Briggs's Boy-Spider threatening to literally supplant Bailey as both a hero and a member of the Briggs household — crystallizes the series' recurring meditation on identity, memory, and what it means to belong, themes that have defined Spider-Boy since his inception. Arriving three issues before Slott concluded the title with issue #20, this chapter represents the creative team pressing deeper into the emotional core of the Bailey-Boyd sibling dynamic before the series' wrap-up. For a character who debuted as the 'hero the Marvel Universe forgot,' the question of whether someone else can simply step into his shoes carries particular narrative weight.

History

Spider-Boy #17 was written by Dan Slott with interior art by Nathan Stockman — a rotation from regular series artist Paco Medina, who handled the main cover alongside colorist Edgar Delgado. The issue was edited by Nick Lowe under editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski and shipped March 5, 2025, with a May 2025 cover date. Slott had conceived the Spider-Boy title as a deliberate rule-breaker within the Spider-Man corner of the Marvel Universe, introducing an entirely original rogues gallery alongside familiar Spidey villains; by issue #17, the series was in its final stretch, with Slott departing Marvel for DC Comics shortly after concluding the book at issue #20.
