Part three of "A Season in Hell" arrives in May 1994, and Duncan Fegredo's painted cover sets an immediately unsettling tone: a young woman in a boldly patterned outfit presses herself against what appears to be a cracked surface, her expression caught between alarm and desperate pleading, while a swarm of locusts fills the dark air around her. The image captures something beautifully disturbing about Vertigo at its mid-90s peak — intimate yet menacing, grounded yet surreal. With Peter Milligan writing and Chris Bachalo on interior art, this installment of Shade, the Changing Man promises the kind of psychedelic unease the series does so well.
