Runaways #1
"True Believers Chapter One" launches the Runaways with a sharp, urgent pulse: six teenagers, newly orphaned and on the run, step into the shadows of Los Angeles not as heroes, but as survivors. Written by Brian K. Vaughan and drawn with raw energy by Adrian Alphona, the issue plunges into a clash with the Wrecking Crew, a mysterious offer from the Excelsior group, and a chilling visit from a machine bearing a future Gertie—her message clear, her warning dire. Jo Chen’s striking cover captures the group’s uneasy unity, setting the tone for a story where trust is fragile and the past is already shaping the future.

With their parents dead and gone, the Runaways begin patrolling the streets of L.A. They try to talk the Excavator out of robbing a bank with his dad, Piledriver, but end up fighting the whole Wrecking Crew. The ex-super hero support group, Excelsior, has their meeting interrupted by a mysterious benefactor who offers them a million dollars if they can track down the Runaways. Meanwhile, back at the base, the kids are shocked when a machine bearing a future Gertie shows up and she tells them they have to track down and stop a kid named Victor who will grow up to kill all of Earth's heroes.
