Few covers from 1985 deliver a gut-punch quite like this one: a massive, snarling green creature dominates the foreground, clutching Rom's gleaming white armored form in its clawed grip as if the Spaceknight were nothing more than a toy. Behind them, a haunting sea of expressionless human faces fills every inch of the background, lending the image an unsettling, almost surreal dread. Jim Starlin's pencils and Steve Leialoha's inks make for a striking combination, setting an appropriately tense stage for Bill Mantlo's "Lifesong" with interior art by the legendary Steve Ditko.
