In "Paranoia Strikes Deep!", the Dire Wraiths launch a bold assault on the SHIELD helicarrier, forcing the U.S. government to take Rom’s warnings about an alien invasion seriously. With Earth’s heroes otherwise occupied in a hidden conflict, President Reagan declares war on the Wraiths, and Ron officially names Rom as a key ally in the fight. Written by Bill Mantlo and illustrated by Sal Buscema, with inks by Mel Candido and Bill Sienkiewicz, and colored by Ben Sean, the issue’s striking cover by Bill Sienkiewicz captures the tension of a nation on edge.
