“Renunciation! Or: What Happens When a Spaceknight's Had Enough!”

In "Renunciation! Or: What Happens When a Spaceknight's Had Enough!", Rom grapples with the weight of his lost humanity, his frustration echoing through the void until Starshine cuts through his despair with a quiet but powerful reminder of purpose. Meanwhile, beneath the surface of Earth’s political stage, the Dire Wraiths make a shocking shift—abandoning science for sorcery, as the female Wraith witches eliminate their male counterparts and seize control of their collective fate. Written by Bill Mantlo and brought to life with dynamic precision by Sal Buscema, Akin, and Garvey, with colors by Ben Sean and letters by Janice Chiang, this 1983 Marvel issue delivers a rare moment of introspection amid the cosmic conflict. The cover, penciled by Ian Akin and inked by Brian Garvey, captures the tension with a striking, otherworldly presence.

All Dire Wraiths on Earth meet after hours at the headquarters of the United Nations to discuss their plans for world conquest. The female Wraith witches kill all of the male Wraith scientists and decide that their future will be solely dictated by magic rather than technology. Unaware of these developments, Rom whines incessantly about his lost humanity until Starshine is able to snap him out of it and convince him that life is still worth living.
