Rex Libris #1
In "I, Librarian," Rex Libris faces an unusual challenge when his eccentric roommate Simonides—a man transformed into a bird by Circe—threatens to disrupt the world order. With a mix of dry wit and quiet determination, Rex enlists Simon’s help on a mission to Benzine V, navigating the chaos of a library’s hidden corridors and the absurdity of a co-worker named Hypatia Krupskaya, all while James Turner’s singular vision brings this surreal, self-contained story to life. The cover by James Turner perfectly captures the tone—part scholarly, part whimsically unhinged.

Rex's roommate is Simonides, a megalomaniac whom Circe transformed into a bird. To distract Simon from his schemes of world conquest, Rex invites him on the mission. Barry interrupts the story to suggest Simon should either carry a gun or have large breasts; Rex promises to introduce his co-worker Hypatia Krupskaya to pacify Barry's demands. Exiting the library, Rex helps rescue a woman lost in the stacks. Rex uses crystals to teleport himself and Simon to the starship which will bring them to Benzine V, but accidentally teleports them both mid-air; on the second attempt, he gets it right.
