☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis second volume of Viz's original English release of Ranma 1/2 continues the chaotic adventures of Ranma Saotome, the martial artist cursed to turn into a girl when splashed with cold water. The collection features escalating rivalries with the lovesick Tatewaki Kuno and the introduction of the eternally lost Ryoga Hibiki, whose own curse turns him into a tiny black pig. Alongside the usual mayhem at the Tendo dojo, the volume also includes early encounters with the eccentric members of the Kuno household and the first appearance of the Jusenkyo Guide, who provides crucial backstory on the training grounds that caused Ranma's predicament.
In "Part One: The Transformation of Ryoga," Ranma must step in for an injured Akane, fighting in her female form after a sleepless night of training. With Kodachi's underhanded tactics and Ryoga's personal vendetta looming, the match becomes a test of endurance and resolve—where every move could mean the difference between victory and defeat. Written by Rumiko Takahashi, Gerard Jones, and Matt Thorn, with art by Takahashi and inks by Wayne Truman, the issue features a striking cover by Takahashi and Viz Graphics.
In "Part Three: Kodachi, the Black Rose," Akane takes on a surprising challenge when she agrees to help the school's Rhythmic Gymnastic Team restore their honor after a loss in Gymnastic Martial Arts. But when she and Ranma realize she has no natural talent for the sport, their usual chaos takes a new, surprisingly graceful turn.
In "Part Six: I'll See That You Lose," Akane’s injury forces Ranma to step in—female form and all—during a high-stakes match. Exhausted from a sleepless night of training, Ranma must dodge Kodachi’s underhanded tactics and face Ryoga’s determined vow to defeat her, all while trying to keep their secret intact.
In "Part Nine: Darling Charlotte," Akane finds herself in an unexpected showdown when a delusional ice skater claims ownership of P-Chan, Ryoga's piglet form, sparking a bizarre challenge: a martial arts ice skating match. With the rink as their battlefield and pride on the line, Akane must rely on her skills—and perhaps a little luck—to prove her claim.
