“Tests, Allies, Enemies”

This 2010 entry in DC's intergalactic team series promises serious intrigue with its cover tagline "Triple Cross!" — and the art by Kalman Andrasofszky delivers the tension to match. A green-skinned, blonde-haired figure charges forward defiantly, framed on all sides by three snarling, monstrous faces that loom like a gauntlet of threats closing in. Writer Tony Bedard, artist Claude St. Aubin, and inker Scott Hanna bring "Tests, Allies, Enemies" to life in what looks, from the cover alone, like a chapter where trust is in very short supply.

In Starro's galaxy, the Omega Men recover a potential means of defeating Starro, while Dox prepares a weapon with which he hopes to destroy the Conqueror himself. Lyrl, having decided that Starro is bent on self-destruction, betrays his master and sends him not to Polaris to join his warriors, but to the Psion Station where he faces Dox and his allies.
