Proof #18
Issue #18 of Image's Proof arrives with a brooding, atmospheric cover by Riley Rossmo — a massive, fur-covered figure in a tall top hat stares out with quiet intensity, surrounded by a swirling mass of dark, flame-touched shapes against a vintage map background evoking old London. The tagline "If You Believe in Monsters, You Need… Proof" perfectly frames the series' blend of cryptozoology and mystery, and this installment kicks off a new chapter with "Julia: Part One." Grecian, Rossmo, and Casey are firing on all cylinders in 2009, and this moody cover alone makes a compelling case for jumping in.

In present-day Oslo, Proof and Ginger find the preserved remains of Julia Pastrona. This causes Proof to recall how in 1859 when he was called "Gulliver" and Mi-Chen-Po was "Gilgamesh," they worked with Robert Winstone's circus where the "baboon woman" Julia was a singer. Although Proof loved her, she had married Thomas Lent. Augustus McKraken was attempting to solve the murders committed by Springheel Jack and came to the circus for help from "Madam Wormwood" (alias the Dover Demon). However, Jack's next attack came at the circus itself.
