The issue also includes "The Spirit" by Will Eisner, a story involving a time bomb concealed in a bag that poses a threat to a police station, which the protagonist must neutralize to prevent disaster.
When a criminal mastermind named Terrace Topside refuses to rejoin a gang of crooks out of fear of Plastic Man, the frustrated crew decides the only solution is to eliminate the F.B.I. agent permanently—and they've hatched an elaborate trap in a deep underground chamber to do it. Plastic Man and his sidekick Woozy Winks find themselves lured into the criminals' lair, where explosives and an airtight vault stand ready, but the stretchy hero has a few tricks of his own up his elastic sleeve. A clever battle of wits and cunning unfolds as the crooks discover that outsmarting Plastic Man is far easier said than done.
Officer Dan Richards is off duty when he stumbles upon a suspicious suitcase—only to discover, with help from his dog companion Thor, that it contains a time bomb meant to destroy the police station. Realizing he's uncovered a criminal scheme, Manhunter springs into action to track down the bombers before they can strike again, leading him to a jewelry store heist in progress. With Thor at his side, Manhunter must stop the crooks and recover the stolen diamonds while keeping his dual identity under wraps.
