“Invitation to Murder”

In "Invitation to Murder," Archie’s misguided attempt to become a jockey after a casual comment from Jughead lands him in a series of mishaps, from overeating to a broken arm after a grueling workout prescribed by the eccentric Dr. Breakbone. The story unfolds with classic 1943 humor, as Archie’s misadventures take a surreal turn when Mr. Lodge reveals the entire jockey idea was never serious. Written and drawn by Harry Sahle, with inks by Ginger, the issue features a cover by Bob Montana, capturing the zany energy of the era.

When Jughead mentions that jockeys have to be a certain weight, Archie stuffs himself in hopes of becoming overweight. Archie gets sick and is visited by Dr. Breakbone. Dr. Breakbone gives Archie a vigorous exercise routine and Archie breaks his arm. When he tells Mr. Lodge of the incident, Mr. Lodge says picking Archie to be a jockey was only a joke.
