NYX #10

History

The NYX (vol. 2) series was announced by Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort at the X-Men: From the Ashes SXSW panel on March 14, 2024, as one of several new titles designed to reestablish mutant stories in a human-scale, street-level context following the end of the Krakoan Age. Writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly — who cited the original NYX, Runaways, and Young Avengers as creative touchstones — structured the series around rotating point-of-view characters identified by civilian rather than mutant names, a deliberate editorial choice to foreground identity politics. Penciler Francesco Mortarino drew the majority of the run, with guest artists Enid Balam and Michael Shelfer handling issues #7 and #6 respectively before Mortarino returned for the final arc (issues #8–10). The cancellation, while signaled publicly by the absence of a solicited eleventh issue, was softened editorially by Lanzing and Kelly being given enough advance notice to write a true series conclusion.
