New X-Men #9
In "Haunted Conclusion," the New Mutants confront the lingering presence haunting their school, discovering it's the spirit of Jeffrey Garrett, a young teleporter lost in the mansion’s past attack. As they hold a seance to reach him, the ghost proves real enough to return as a student—while Josh navigates a quiet moment with Laurie, and secrets between Josh and Rahne ripple through the halls, unheard by Kevin, who’s now seeking help from a therapist. Written by Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir, with art by Carlo Pagulayan and inks by Norm Rapmund, this 2005 issue captures a haunting blend of supernatural mystery and personal tension, all rendered in vibrant colors by Pete Pantazis, Tom Chu, and Soto. The cover by Randy Green and Rick Ketcham completes the eerie, introspective mood.

The New Mutants learn that the ghost that has been plaguing the school is the spirit of Jeffrey Garrett, a young teleporter who got caught in the blast when the mansion was attacked. They hold a seance to contact him and he proves to be corporeal enough to begin attending classes at the school. Josh has dinner with Laurie and her mother and kisses her at the end of the date. Josh and Rahne have a serious talk about their secret relationship, little knowing that Kevin can hear every wird they say. Kevin begins to see a therapist.
