When the New Mutants and Hellions decide to bring an end to the inhumane experiments of Project Genesis, Laurie is the only one who remains faithful to S.H.I.E.L.D. and uses her pheromone powers to force her friends to try and kill each other. Mercury finds herself immune to the effects and succeeds in cutting Laurie down. While Magik teleports away with the humans who have suffered at the hands of the project, the rest of the Hellions and New Mutants decide to bring attention to the atrocities committed by S.H.I.E.L.D. by going out in a blaze of glory against Sunfire and his troops.
