New Mutants: War Children #1

Published as part of Marvel's 80th anniversary celebration in 2019, this one-shot reunites the creative team of Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz for a new "War Children" story featuring the New Mutants. Sienkiewicz's cover is immediately arresting: the young team — including a fiery Magik, a glowing Dani Moonstar, a mechanical-armed Warlock, and several of their teammates in X-uniforms — stands defiantly small against the looming, skull-faced enormity of a massive mechanical threat whose clawed limbs frame the entire composition. Colorist Chris Sotomayor bathes the scene in deep blues and urgent reds, making this a visually striking showcase of the original team's enduring spirit.
