With Lord Barlow in command and Kendal Quick as his second, the "Black Bess" sails south out of Plymouth to harry the Spanish fleet. On the second day a Spanish Man o'War is taken and the treasure laid out on deck. Lord Barlow decides to return on the Spanish vessel to England, and leaves Quick in command of the "Black Bess". Quick promises that under his command the treasure they just captured will be as nothing.
