Bud Fisher's beloved comic-strip duo brings their signature misunderstandings to the gridiron in this December–January 1952 DC issue. The cover by Sheldon Mayer sets the tone perfectly: a bewildered Mutt looks on as the diminutive Jeff kneels on a football field, cheerfully applying a lit fuse to the football — his very literal interpretation of the coach's order to "blow it up." It's the kind of warm, gently absurdist gag humor that made Mutt & Jeff a perennial favorite, and at just a dime, issue #61 delivered that charm in abundance.
