“When the Totem Walks!”

In "When the Totem Walks!", two fugitive convicts find themselves trapped in a remote wilderness after fleeing prison, only to stumble upon a Native American tribe. After robbing the villagers and plotting to kill them at dawn, the tribe’s sacred totem mysteriously comes to life in the dead of night—responding to the chieftain’s prayers—and begins hunting the men back to their prison. As the convicts believe they’ve found safety behind iron bars, the totem’s shadow looms at their cell window, tearing through the bars with terrifying resolve. Written by Stan Lee and Larry Lieber, with evocative art by Steve Ditko—both inks and pencils—and lettering by Artie Simek, this 1994 Marvel tale blends primal dread with a classic supernatural twist, all captured in a striking cover by Ditko.
