Jim Courtney, a young man raised by a patriotic flag-maker, discovers on his twenty-first birthday that he's been chosen by the spirits of American history itself to become a champion for his country. Granted superhuman strength, speed, and invulnerability through a mysterious birthmark, Jim takes on the identity of the Flag and is soon thrust into action when enemy forces begin a sinister real attack disguised as routine military war games. Major Al Williams, a pioneering naval aviator who earned his Distinguished Flying Cross, risked his career advancing the science of flight—from winning the 1923 Pulitzer Prize Race to testing experimental aircraft that had already claimed five lives. When a dangerous training plane proved deadly, Williams volunteered to push it to the breaking point, gathering crucial data that saved future pilots even as he faced his own devastating crash. His relentless pursuit of speed and aeronautical knowledge would reshape aviation and the fight for a unified air force.
