Marvel History #[8]
This Panini Deutschland collection brings together the early issues of Marvel History (2007), a series that re-examines the foundational stories of the Marvel Universe through a modern lens. The volume focuses on the original X-Men team—Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman, and Angel—as they face early threats from Magneto, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (including Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Toad, and Blob), and the Juggernaut, while also weaving in the origins of Professor X and the mutant conflict. It also touches on the Fantastic Four's Johnny Storm and Daredevil's Matt Murdock, offering a broad but interconnected look at Marvel's Silver Age beginnings.
In "Der Triumph des Magneto!", Xavier detects a powerful alien presence on Earth, sending the X-Men to investigate. When the Stranger—a mysterious visitor struggling to adapt to human ways—meets Magneto, an unexpected alliance forms, leading to a dramatic departure from Earth with Magneto and Toad in tow. As Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch choose to return to Europe, the X-Men confront the truth: the Stranger is no human, but a cosmic collector of mutants, and his journey with Magneto has only just begun.
In "Die Herkunft des Professor X!", Professor X shares the harrowing tale of his past with the X-Men as a mysterious foe breaches the mansion’s defenses. As the threat closes in, Xavier reveals the origins of his powers and the tragic transformation of his once-fragile Stiefbruder into a relentless force of destruction.
In "Jetzt kommt... Juggernaut!", the X-Men face off against the unstoppable Juggernaut as he invades Professor Xavier's mansion, testing their strength and unity. With the help of the Fackel and Xavier’s unwavering resolve, the team must find a way to stop the relentless force before he causes irreversible damage.
In "Sie sind unter uns... Die Sentinels!", the X-Men are enjoying a rare break when Professor X is drawn into a televised debate with Dr. Trask—only to see the scientist unveil a terrifying new threat: the Sentinels. These towering robots, designed to hunt and destroy mutants, declare themselves superior and begin their march toward dominance. With the fate of mutantkind hanging in the balance, Xavier calls his team into action as the Sentinels seize Trask and retreat to their hidden base.
In "Das grösste Opfer!", Professor X returns to investigate a fallen Sentinel after the X-Men are captured, uncovering a crucial clue in the machine’s stillness. As the team fights to escape, it’s Xavier’s timely intervention and Dr. Trask’s unexpected sacrifice that turn the tide against the Ur-Sentinel—just in time to save the day.
In "... Keiner wird überleben!", Hank, Bobby, and Scott are hospitalized after a battle with the Sentinels, leaving Iceman in a coma while the others recover. When Angel returns to the family villa to visit his parents, he’s ambushed by a mysterious stranger—prompting Xavier and Cyclops to return home, only to face the same threat. The story unfolds with escalating tension as the X-Men’s sanctuary becomes a battleground.
In "Wenn Iceman versagt...", a wounded Iceman must hold off Magneto alone while the rest of the X-Men are trapped in a sealed gondola beneath a rising balloon. With the team barely free, Professor X calls upon the Stranger, who arrives on Earth to reclaim his former prisoner.
In "Hütet euch vor... Mimic!", Bobby and Hank face off against the enigmatic Calvin Rankin, a foe who mirrors their powers with chilling precision. When Rankin tracks Jean to her home and pleads to join the X-Men, his true intentions unfold as he absorbs her abilities and takes her captive. The team follows him into a forgotten mine, where he activates a machine built by his father—one that could permanently grant him their combined powers.
