Tom Mandrake's cover for this June 2001 issue drops J'onn J'onzz right into the middle of a swarming mass of green, armor-clad Martian warriors, energy blasts cutting across the chaos as the Manhunter braces against the onslaught. The sheer density of combatants — all those snarling alien faces pressing in from every angle — makes this one of the more viscerally intense covers of the series' run. "Altered Egos" reaches its conclusion here, with Ostrander and Mandrake delivering the payoff to a storyline that's clearly pushed J'onn to his limits.
