Martian Manhunter #3
Spinning out of the pages of JLA, this February 1999 issue plunges J'onn J'onzz into what the cover bluntly calls "Head Games!" — and the imagery delivers on that promise. Tom Mandrake's cover swirls with tension as a visibly anguished Martian Manhunter, red eyes blazing and teeth clenched, is gripped by a dark-haired woman in black whose own expression is one of wide-eyed alarm, both figures caught in a churning vortex of blue energy. Writer John Ostrander and artist Mandrake make a compelling team for a series willing to push DC's brooding green Leaguer into genuinely unsettling psychological territory.
