Martian Manhunter #22

Spinning out of the pages of JLA, this September 2000 issue subtitled "Revelation Three: Brothers" teams writer John Ostrander with cover artist Tom Mandrake for a chapter that feels genuinely weighty. Mandrake's cover is all brooding atmosphere — a massive, shadowed Batman looms over the composition, his white lenses dominating the upper half, while tiny figures including a green-skinned Martian Manhunter and what appear to be other heroes are caught beneath his enveloping cape, glowing eyes and energy bursts flickering in the darkness. It's a striking visual that makes clear the Dark Knight's presence casts a long shadow over J'onn J'onzz's world this issue.
