After a sleepless night worrying about skunks, Marmaduke decides the solution is to live like a prince and hires Sammy as his servant. When Sammy tries to sneak into Marmaduke's new office to show him a crime, Marmaduke kicks him out repeatedly, but eventually Sammy convinces him to become a detective and solve crimes for money. As they search for a case, they encounter a bloodhound who chases them, leading to a series of comic mishaps involving a rocket that launches Marmaduke skyward multiple times, ultimately leaving the pair exhausted and laughing at their misadventures.
