The second issue of DC's 1988 Manhunter series opens with a striking chess-game metaphor — a massive, green-masked figure looms over the board, coldly gripping a skull-topped piece, while Manhunter himself crouches in his blue-and-red costume, staff in hand, ready to make his move. A green creature lurks in the foreground, adding another unpredictable element to what already feels like a dangerous game of predator versus predator.
