Karlota saves baby Luba from being harmed by Maria's husband El Señor who kicks her and Maria out of his mansion because he realizes Luba is not his child. With no family or place to go, Maria stays at Eduardo's place. Juan, Eduardo's ex-coworker, hits him in the head with a club, takes his money and leaves town. Eduardo's head injury causes him to start drinking and miss work. Eventually, Maria leaves town and then later Karlota. All alone, Eduardo leaves with Luba in tow.
