'Confession' follows a young man who becomes the new sidekick to the city's Batman analogue, the Confessor, while also delving into the dark secrets of Astro City's past. Busiek's character-driven storytelling, paired with Brent Anderson's art, explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the human side of superheroes in this Eisner Award-nominated volume.
In "New Kid in Town," newcomer Brian Kinney makes his mark in Astro City by landing a job at the upscale Butler's, after a rough start at the more rowdy Bruiser's. When the chaotic Glue-Gun crashes through the skylight and turns the restaurant into a hostage situation, Brian’s quick thinking earns him more than just a few bruises—his actions catch the eye of the Confessor. Written by Kurt Busiek and illustrated by Brent Eric Anderson, with inks by Will Blyberg, colors by Alex Sinclair, and letters by John Roshell, this issue features a striking cover by Alex Ross.
In "The Gathering Dark," Altar Boy pushes forward with his training amid rising fear over the Shadow Hill murders, as Astro City’s mayor calls in the monster-hunter Mordecai Chalk and pushes for a superhuman registry. Meanwhile, Confessor’s focus narrows on capturing the elusive Gunslinger, leaving Altar Boy to question the true motives behind his mentor’s actions.
In "Patterns," the Confessor finds himself hunted by government forces after the mayor pins the Shadow Hill murders on him. As he fights to survive, the Confessor uncovers a truth buried beneath layers of deception—revealing the mayor’s true nature in a moment that reshapes everything.
In "My Father's Son," Jo confronts the legacy of a powerful father while navigating a world still reeling from a global alien invasion. As the Hanged Man grapples with the truth behind the Shadow Hill murders, Brian Kinney steps into a new chapter, reshaping his role in a city defined by heroes and secrets.
In "The Nearness of You," Michael Tenicek finds himself haunted by dreams of Miranda, a woman he can't place but can't forget. When the Hanged Man reveals these visions are echoes of a lost life, Michael must choose between letting go or holding on to a love from a reality that no longer is.
