Justice League of America #31
November 1964 brings one of the more visually striking covers of the Silver Age, with pencils by Mike Sekowsky and inks by Murphy Anderson depicting Batman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Hawkman tumbling through a starfield as their JLA meeting room itself breaks apart and drifts into the void of space. The cover also carries the bold announcement that Hawkman is joining the Justice League, and his winged form — grasping Wonder Woman's hand amid the chaos — makes his presence on the team immediately felt. "Riddle of the Runaway Room!" promises exactly the kind of high-concept Silver Age intrigue that writer Gardner Fox delivered so reliably, and this issue is a fine snapshot of the JLA at the height of its era.
